Imagine a world where Sociotechnology, already omnipresent in the digital age, nurtures cooperation, mutual understanding, and democracy.

Plurality is a growing movement aimed at advancing and utilizing collaborative digital and social technology to revolutionize how we cooperate and make decisions.

Why is now the moment for Plurality? With economic and political power reaching unprecedented levels of concentration,  the need for transparency, inclusiveness, and democratic initiative has never been greater.

Plurality offers a transformative opportunity leveraging the ongoing digitization as a medium to bring about the foundation for immense human prosperity and well-being.

Explore here, how i see concrete ways to bring about a more democratic and sustainable society - or read the book about Plurality and join the ⿻-Community for deeper insights and ways to get involved.

Sustainable Democracy

Turns out installing and financing oligarchs, monarchs, and dictators is detrimental to democracy.

Yet, everyone—yes, including you—is often compelled to provide substantial financial and political resources to such figures, usually without even realizing it.

This power is then frequently used to acquire companies, media outlets, or to directly bribe politicians, thereby expanding their influence and power  Meanwhile, the public remains largely unaware of their inadvertent complicity in empowering anti-democratic forces and contributing to their own subjugation.

How can this trend be reversed and competent and inclusive self-governance be achieved and nurtured within the population?

Read on to explore how the economy, political systems, international relations, and media landscape need to transform to make democracy great again.

Sustainable Economy

Our market system requires regulatory intervention. For too long, financial profitability has been the primary performance metric by which economic actors are rewarded with competitive dominance and economic influence.

Right now, economic regions with a high standard of living are steadily losing competitiveness to regions with less costly regulations and laws aimed at protecting public well-being.

Slave holders have an economic advantage over Employers.

The principles of competition and performance are becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism devolves into corporatocracy and fascism, where power becomes concentrated in the hands of a few corporations and elites, stifling innovation, distorting markets, and undermining fair competition.

Discover how these and more Challenges can be met achieving maximal sustainability and welfare.

Sustainable Digitization

Digitization is the most profound transformation our society is currently experiencing, driving us rapidly toward authoritarian governance and ecological collapse.

Yet, this was never the intended path. We must rise above division and rediscover the pioneering spirit of the early internet era, when interconnectedness and information processing promised unity and empowerment.

Cyber-utopia is much closer than you think. All we need to do is seize the moment.

Sustainable Ecosphere

In September 2023, a team of scientists quantified, for the first time, all nine processes that regulate the stability and resilience of the Earth system.

Since then, their framework has been revised several times.

The latest update not only quantified all boundaries, it also concludes that six of the nine boundaries have been transgressed.

Crossing boundaries increases the risk of generating large-scale abrupt or irreversible environmental changes. Drastic changes will not necessarily happen overnight, but together the boundaries mark a critical threshold for increasing risks to people and the ecosystems we are part of.

Boundaries are interrelated processes within the complex biophysical Earth system. This means that a global focus on climate change alone is not sufficient for increased sustainability. Instead, understanding the interplay of boundaries, especially climate, and loss of biodiversity, is key in science and practice.

Sustainable digital Media

Current social media platforms are designed to be engrossing and maipulative, often leading to addictive behaviors and loss of self-awareness. These platforms keep users passively engaged rather than encouraging creativity and active participation. This mode of communication, characterized by short attention spans and superficial interactions, contradicts the deep self-reflection needed to address socio-ecological crises.

The Supported Projects aim to develop an innovative online media governance system, drawing inspiration from the principles of traditional public broadcasting services. These initiatives seek to offer a transparent, community-driven alternative to the dominant, profit-oriented social media platforms.

By leveraging federated open-source protocols like those found in the Fediverse, the projects are designed to empower users while promoting sustainable digital spaces. The key objectives include:

  • Minimizing the commercialization of the social sphere: reduce the influence of advertising and corporate interests, creating a space where genuine interaction and community-building are the main drivers
  • Enabling users to self-configure algorithms: Users are given control over the algorithms that shape their experience free from the manipulation common in conventional social media.
  • Maintaining a secure and authentic environment: Trust-based systems and collaborative moderation methods to ensure the space remains free of bots, trolls, and other disruptive elements
  • Decentralized Identity Management: Empower users to manage and own their digital identities through decentralized systems, ensuring privacy, security, and control over personal data
  • Civic Engagement Tools: Develop platforms that enhance civic participation and political discourse, offering tools for community-driven decision-making, digital town halls, and collaborative policy creation
